10.  Element Creation

General

The main purpose of any CAD system is to create desired elements. Here are some function modes (FM) that allow geometry creation. Some elements are 2D (flat) and some are 3D, but all geometries are placed in 3D space.

Description

When this CAD system is started, the initial default function mode is FM Point. The user is prompted to define a point. In general, there are three ways to define a point coordinate in this system. 1) Click an existing element to get a coordinate, 2) Click the current plane to define a point on the plane, and 3) Key in the coordinate x,y,z.

  FM Point

This FM command allows the creation of points in 3D space. In this command, the user is prompted to define a coordinate to place a point. The user can "indicates" a location on the current plane, or keys in a 3D coordinate.

  FM Line

This FM command allows the creation of a multi-lines in 3D space. The user is prompted to define two coordinate locations to create a line segment. The user can continually define a new coordinate to create multi-segment line. Hit "End" to finish the line creation and start a new one.

  FM Rectangular

This FM command allows the creation of a rectangle on the current plane. Define one corner, and then define the opposite corner.

  FM Circle

This FM command allows the creation of a circle on the current plane. Define the circle center first, and then define the radius by dragging the mouse and click.
Submenu:  Center-Radius / Side-to-Side / Three Points

  FM Spline (NURBS)

This FM command allows the creation of a spline (NURBS). The user is prompted to define control points for the NURBS curve. Hit "End" to finish the creation.
Select an existing control point to modify the location (click a new location) or delete (hit Delete).

  FM Cylinder

This FM command allows the creation of a cylinder on the current plane. Define a circle on the current plane (as in FM Circle) and then drag the mouse to define the height and click. Hold Shift key during the last click to make a cone.

  FM Box 3D

This FM command allows the creation of a 3D box on the current plane. Define 2 corners and then drag the mouse to define the height and click. Hold Shift key during the last click to make a tapered box.

  FM Elbow 3D

This FM command allows the creation of a 3D elbow on the current plane. By defining the location, an elbow with the default dimension will be created. (See Geometry Modification for change.)

  FM Revolve

This FM command creates a geometry by revolving a profile element created by FM Line. The user is prompted to select a 2D profile element. Then, define the rotation axis by defining 2 points. Then, indicate on the current plane to revolve 360 degrees.
